Jyotirmath, also called as Joshimath is a city, a municipal nourishment in Chamoli District in the Uttarakhand, India. It is situated at aelevation of 6150 feet. It is a gateway to numerous Himalayan mountain uphill expeditions, trekking trails and pilgrim centres like Badrinath. It is a home to one of the four basicpithasrecognized by AdiShankara. It became inactive in the early 19th century. However later in 1940 the authorized occupation of the matha was recommenced with the delivery of the heads of certain of the other mathas. The present head or Shankaracharya is “SvarupanandaSarasvati” who is also skull of the Dwarakamatha. The other two candidates are VasudevanandaSarasvatiandMadhavasrama.

Narsingh Temple of Jyotimath
